I voted Mirage as this was my introduction to the band.
One day, I was a the local record store (that I visited very frequently in those days) and the store owner asked me if I knew this band, 'Camel'. Well, yeah, heard about them, a familiar name, but never heard any music by them. The store owner gave me Mirage. He said: I'm sure you'll like this. Listen to it, and when you return here next week, you bring money to pay for the cd, or you return the cd.
A week later, I returned with money for the cd. (of course) ;)
Moonmadness for me captures the essence of Camel. Stationary traveller comes in a close second. Would have been an even harder decision if live stuff was included as I regard A Live Record as one of the greatest live records ever.
I voted for Mirage. The debut album "Camel" did back then, unfortunately, not the desired result. Even more astonishing is it, have set the Camel with the second album "Mirage" is a milestone in progressive rock history.
Besides the great successful songs Freefall, Super Twister, Nimrodel and Earthrise is the anthem of all Camel fans, "Lady Fantasy" on this great LP.
I like to remember the happy hours with old friends that I spent with this music.
Unfortunately, on some later albums Camel has subordinated the musical mainstream. Much fabric softener, but what it is, they are again a bit long in the old track.
Moonmadnes! I t was the first Camel record I ever heard and I still love it, Totaly perfect! Not far followed by Rajaz. The title track ist in my opion the best single track truely aamazing!
Rajaz is my number one pick, although Nude is probably a close second. Mirage was my first exposure to Camel, but it would be Rain Dances in third place, then Mirage in fourth.
